Austin team gets ready for the Wellness Walk and Research Run
Spurred on by a desire to create an inclusive work environment, an enthusiastic and passionate group of staff from Food Services have formed a team for the upcoming Wellness Walk and Research Run (WWRR).
"In past years we have had Food Services staff participating in the WWRR as individuals, but this is the first year we have formed a team," Food Services team member, Tas Stamatiou, says.
"We want to maximise our fundraising by pooling our efforts to achieve a better result. And to promote an inclusive, social event for staff, proving that 'together we achieve.'"
With participants from across all campuses, Team Austin Food Services is growing every day.
"As we get closer to the event day of Sunday 6 October, we are finding more staff members are wishing to join us - the more the merrier," Tas says.
He says the team is looking forward to a fun day, filled with team spirit and inclusiveness.
"We will all meet together as a team before the event, many of us will walk together, and we are all looking forward to having lunch together after the walk."
Some staff have personal experience of family or friends being treated for cancer at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Cancer Centre).
"There are several team members who have had family treated here and some have had treatment themselves," Tas says.
"The care provided by staff at the ONJ Cancer Centre has motivated members to take part without hesitation. It's our way of giving a little back."
This year the WWRR has new location in Melbourne's Alexandra Gardens and participants will be walking or running around the iconic Tan Track.
It's not too late to form a team, fundraise to help people with cancer and have a great team-building day out!
