Delivering comfort to overseas patients
Patients as far afield as Somaliland and Cambodia are using recycled Austin Health mattresses and other equipment thanks to the hard work of our Sustainability Department and local Rotary Club volunteers.
Over the past six months more than 200 mattresses have been donated to Rotary InKind who distribute the mattresses to hospitals in developing countries. Beds have also been donated as part of the program.
Sustainability Manager Jason Walker said the donations made a big difference as some of the hospitals which received the goods didn't have any beds or mattresses with patients forced to lie on the floor.
