The February intake of graduate nurses.

Welcome to our new graduates

This week Austin Health welcomes its second intake of graduate nurses for 2018.

A group of 74 nurses start their nursing careers yesterday with an induction and orientation at Austin Hospital.

While January’s intake included nurses joining the general stream of the graduate program, this week’s includes nurses from a range of streams. The group includes four enrolled nurses, eight nurses undertaking the Mental Health stream and another four undertaking a combined stream, spending six months each on mental health and general nursing rotations.

Graduate nurse program coordinator, Jane Warneke, says that this is only the second year that enrolled nurses have joined the same graduate program as registered nurses.

“Enrolled nurses now have access to the same support and opportunities that registered nurses have,” she said.

The new graduates will work across all three Austin Health sites doing two six month rotations each. They will receive ongoing guidance, including a range of professional development opportunities, from the Early Graduate support team.

If you would like to offer a message of welcome to the new nurses, you can do so on Facebook or Twitter.
